As a retired University of Windsor professor, reading coverage of the axed University Players program shocked and disappointed me.
Addressing financial shortfalls (precipitated in part by external pressures) is prudent, but the autocratic action appears to deny due process in problem-solving afforded to other departments.
The vital Jackman Dramatic Art Centre and resources were devalued as was the legacy of cutting-edge live theatre on campus.

Like the simulation labs in the sciences and moot court in law, the University Players is a practicum, fostering confidence, skills, passion and pride in career choices. Without the opportunity for live theatre productions, one can understand other centres drawing away students from the university experience.
In the spirit of collaboration, support to reconvene the UP program has been building among stakeholders and interested parties from near and far. A variety of fundraising strategies, such as corporate partnerships, public sponsorships, backstage ‘meet-and-greet’ events, red carpet galas, intermission refreshment sales, UP gear and bling sales, social media fundraisers, rental streams, film festivals, more and greater variety of shows on stage, and theatre-on-the-green could all create a quality UP asset.
Will the curtains go up again for the University Players? One hopes so.
May the darkened theatre be turned again into black ink and rave reviews.
