After an outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics, Suni Lee is craving one thing: a big, steaming bowl of pho.
The 21-year-old Hmong American gymnast has secured three more medals at this year’s games, scoring a bronze in Sunday’s uneven bars final, bringing her Olympic medal total to six (so far).
Lee officially ended her run in Paris after Monday’s balance beam final and was asked post-performance what she plans on eating to celebrate.
“I want, like, some pho,” Lee says. “I’ve been craving pho or some type of soup anywhere I look here, but I just, I can’t find it, but yeah. That’s so Asian of me.”
Lee’s fans quickly assembled on social media to help find her some pho in Paris — outside of the Olympic Village’s dining hall, which has gotten lackluster reviews (aside from the viral chocolate muffin), including from her teammate Simone Biles.
“GET SUNI SOME PHO RN,” posted one X user.
“There’s some solid pho in Paris,” wrote another. “Someone get it to her stat!”
“Paris has some of the best Pho in the world… check-in with the large Vietnamese community there,” posted another. France is home to the oldest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam, owing to the European country’s history of colonization in the late 19th century.
“Someone in Paris help Suni Lee find good pho!!! This is unacceptable!” wrote one more.
“I found a place and tweeted @sunisalee_ and @USAGym hoping someone can get this for her!” wrote X user @iloveparis, linking to Pho Bobun in the 9th arrondissement.
The same user mentioned in another post that “folks online say the 13th arrondissement has great Vietnamese restaurants.” The Vietnam Times has also written about restaurants in the district, which include spots specializing in pho and banh mi.
X user @iloveparis also added that the “Asian café atop Galeries Lafayette has great pho,” referring to Panasia, which serves pho in addition to other Asian dishes like sushi and dumplings.
“My son & DIL had Pho at Pho 14 Opéra said it one of the best they’d ever had,” wrote another X user, suggesting a pho spot minutes from the Louvre. “Someone get @sunisalee_ some stat.”
One fan looked back at Lee’s history of Olympic cravings, noting that in “Tokyo it was Pizza now its Pho.”
At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Lee said she was “gonna go eat a pizza” after being asked how she was going to celebrate winning gold in the women’s all-around.
She satisfied her craving later when she posted a photo of herself in bed with a pepperoni pizza, smiling in her Olympics gear, slice in hand.
There are 61 restaurants that serve pho in Paris, according to TripAdvisor, so here’s hoping we’ll soon see a similarly satisfying photo of Lee slurping from a bowl of the Vietnamese soup.
