The University of Windsor is getting $4.8 million from the province to upgrade and renovate classrooms.
But part of that investment is contingent on the university finding matching private sector contributions for HVAC and other upgrades designed “to help deliver high-quality education and training to meet the needs of employers.”
“This support will ensure students … have access to modern instructional equipment to meet business and industry standards, increase student access to micro-credentials and enhance the overall student experience,” Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie said in a news release Thursday.

The capital funding will help:
• renovate three of the most-used classrooms on campus at Erie Hall and overhaul that building’s HVAC system ($1.8 million);
• full renovation of a Faculty of Education classroom and surrounding hallways and HVAC systems ($1.2 million);
• upgrade building automation (HVAC) controls in several buildings, including education gym, Great Lakes Institute of Environmental Research; and Memorial Hall ($500,000);
• transform two Centre for Engineering Innovation rooms into a single “flexible classroom” ($150,000).
Such capital investments “will help institutions renew and modernize their facilities and allow them to continually improve the learning experience for students,” Colleges and Universities Minister Jill Dunlop said in the same news release.
“It is essential that our colleges and universities have the latest learning tools and equipment so students can get the skills they need for the in-demand jobs,” Dunlop said.
The matching contributions from private sector partners will “help deliver high-quality education and training to meet the needs of employers.”
The province said it’s providing $171 million through the Facilities Renewal Program in 2023-24 to help publicly assisted colleges and universities with critical maintenance, repairs, upgrades and renewal of existing facilities.
