The act of simply opening Counter-Strike 2 cases is pretty much an entire subculture surrounding the game at this point. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of opening a case and seeing all of the expensive items you could have had agonizingly scroll past, before eventually landing on something worth a couple of cents.
If nothing else, it’s a fun way to burn a few bucks. Best case scenario, you get one of those sweet Counter-Strike 2 knives. There are a couple of ways you can get these CS2 cases in-game to open to your heart’s content.
Buy Counter-Strike 2 cases on Steam Marketplace
The most common way that players will get Counter-Strike 2 cases is by purchasing them on the Steam Marketplace. There, gamers can trade their items for a fee. With so many different CS2 cases to choose from, each has a different price. Some will set you back a few cents, while others cost upwards of hundreds of dollars.
To get CS2 cases through the Steam Marketplace, follow along with these steps:
- On Steam, hover over the “Community” tab before pressing “Market”
- On the right side of the page, under the “Browse by Game” tab, select “Counter-Strike 2“
- Search for the word “case” in the search bar, or filter the item type by “Containers” under the advanced options
- Select the Counter-Strike 2 case you want, and select the quantity before purchasing
After this, you’ll have your CS2 cases in-game automatically. However, you’ll still need to buy a key for each one. Keys cost $2.50 each in Counter-Strike 2, so it’s a cost that can rack up quite fast. You can purchase these keys directly in-game – there’s no need to go through the Steam Marketplace here.
Earn free Counter-Strike 2 cases
Don’t want to torch your wallet opening CS2 cases? We’ve got you. By playing Counter-Strike 2, you can earn a free case once a week via your weekly care package. The only kicker is that you must have a Prime account, which currently costs $14.99. Playing a few matches will earn you enough XP to unlock the weekly drop, where you’ll receive a random case from one of the current Prime cases. These are:
- Kilowatt Case
- Revolution Case
- Recoil Case
- Dreams & Nightmares Case
- Snakebite Case
- Fracture Case
Because millions of players earn these CS2 cases weekly, they’re among the cheapest on the market. You’ve still got to buy a key for them too, so you’re not totally off the hook. Still, if you’re not one for spending a ton of money on Counter-Strike 2 cases, this might be the route for you.
If opening cases isn’t for you, you can even sell your free ones on the Steam Marketplace to others. After a while, you could use that cash to buy something else on Steam entirely.
