The Congress announced on Tuesday that it will organise public mobilisation campaigns over its demands for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Adani issue, a caste census and adherence to the Constitution in letter and spirit, as it held a key meeting on its preparedness for the upcoming Assembly polls. Amid a raging row over Hindenburg’s allegations, the opposition party also said it will hold a nationwide agitation on August 22 demanding SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch’s resignation and a JPC probe into the Adani issue.

FSN E-Commerce Ventures, which operates Nykaa brand, on Tuesday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 13.64 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2024 which was up by 152 per cent from Rs 5.42 crore posted by the beauty & personal care company in the year ago period. The revenue from operation for the reporting quarter stood at Rs 1,746.11 crore, which was up by 23 per cent from Rs 1,421.82 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The Calcutta High Court ordered Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Hospital, to take an extended leave following the brutal rape and murder of a doctor on campus. The High Court also asked why a murder case was not registered at the outset and an unnatural death case was initiated into the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam put forth the question to the West Bengal government lawyer when he claimed that an unnatural death case was registered, as there is no immediate complaint of murder.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday closed the contempt case filed against against Patanjali co-founders Baba Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna in the misleading ads case. During the hearings on the contempt case against Patanjali Ayurved in connection with its misleading ads, the top court had repeatedly slammed the Patanjali founders . The court had also criticised the Uttarakhand government for not acting against the company.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has withdrawn the latest draft of the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2024 by asking all stakeholders to return physical copies given to them between July 24 and 25. The proposed legislation drew backlash due to concerns about increased government oversight of internet content. The initial draft raised issues regarding free speech rights and the extent of governmental authority to restrict such freedoms. In the previous month, the ministry circulated a revised draft to a select group of interested parties, seeking their input.

National General Secretary of Samajwadi Party, Shivpal Singh Yadav, has been made in-charge of Ambedkar Nagar’s Kathari Assembly. While Awadhesh Prasad and Lal Bihari Yadav have been made in-charge for Ayodhya’s Milkipur seat.
