- Uno Car Party is a new collaboration between BMW, Mattel and AirConsole
- It allows BMW drivers, starting with the new X3, to play the classic card game on their onboard entertainment system
- But how is it going to compete against smaller, faster mobile devices?
There’s no game quite like Uno for starting off casually and soon ending with the kind of friendship-ending melodrama usually reserved for Shakespearean plays and historical events. And now you’ll soon be able to take that fun on the road with you in the new Uno Car Party.
What? Uno on the road? Yes, you read that right. BMW, Mattel and AirConsole are teaming up to bring the classic card game to the new over 500,000 BMW and MINI car’s onboard entertainment system. Meaning now you have the perfect excuse to leave your friend on the side of the road after they pulled a draw-four card.
But seriously. Although a BMW probably doesn’t follow for ‘pocketgamer’, it is interesting to see the idea of playing games on the go digitally becoming a part of the car world. Especially when they’re competing with devices virtually everyone has in their pocket. Still, maybe it’ll appeal to the niche audience of car enthusiasts who really like Uno. We’ll have to wait and see.
You have Uno, it comes free with your carI’ve got the feeling that Uno Car Party will end up more of a curiosity than anything. Yes, Tesla’s inclusion of The Battle of Polytopia on their entertainment systems helped put the 4x game into headlines, but I’m not sure it made as much of a difference to overall player count or success in anything but a publicity sense.
