Re: Pay up, Sutcliffe says; Mayor claims ‘arcane’ gov’t payment plan short-changes city, Aug. 11
While I agree that the federal government hasn’t been handing over what it should, the mayor also needs to realize that a big problem is not spending within our means.
Although Mayor Mark Sutcliffe isn’t responsible for the LRT fiasco or the new library, it’s time to tighten the city’s belt. We didn’t need a new library, and that’s costing us $334 million, and no doubt the price tag will go up by the time it’s finished, considering it was originally pegged at $175 million.
Another waste of our money was the $41 million for the Arts Court. It’s time to stop handing over our money to every special-interest group.
The city is tasked with looking after — and we are obligated to pay taxes for — things like roads, sewers and other infrastructure that the whole city needs. It’s time to hold politicians responsible when they screw up because it hurts us all in the end.

Meanwhile, on the opposite page from the above article in the Sun, there was a story about a man in a wheelchair who is homeless, like many others. We should be dealing with these issues instead of pandering to the arts, etc.

PETERSON AND A POLICE STATE
Re: Top court nixes Peterson’s appeal, Aug. 9
So the unaccountable College of Psychologists of Ontario and the unelected and unaccountable judiciary have determined that Jordan Peterson can no longer express personal views on societal norms and practices if he wishes to remain a member in good standing of the college.
What did Dr. Peterson do to deserve such sanctions? Did he fail in his professional duties to clients? No. He made online comments on social media that “appeared degrading, demeaning and unprofessional” in the opinion of one unnamed individual who was never Dr. Peterson’s client. Do these two august bodies dictate “socially acceptable“ views and opinions? Did they ever consider the views of the millions of people around the world who avidly follow Dr. Peterson on his social media accounts? No.
We are a band of “deplorables” who have been denied our “free speech” rights. Sounds like the actions of a “police state.”
