“This festival is a celebration of the vibrant cultures of Africa and African diaspora. WIDAFEST aims to foster a sense of unity and pride within the African diaspora community while also educating and engaging the broader Windsor community about African heritage and traditions.”
Organizers said the festival, which began Friday afternoon, will go ahead rain or shine. It runs through Sunday in Lanspeary Park at 1250 Langlois Ave.
The festivities run from 11 a.m .to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. One highlight Saturday afternoon will be a large parade stretching down Ottawa Street starting at 1 p.m.
The first WIDAFEST took place over eight days in July 2023. The 2024 event is three days, but organizers promise an “even more exciting lineup of cultural performances, traditional cuisine, art exhibits, and educational workshops.”
There will also be multiple vendors throughout the weekend, along with DJs, music, and other live entertainment.
Organizers said the event is aimed at bringing the community together to celebrate “Africa’s rich and diverse cultures.”
“Attendees will have the opportunity to experience Africa’s unique sounds, tastes, and traditions right here in Windsor,” organizers said in a media release.
