Going, going, gone.
A triangle-shaped property on Cabana at Division roads — now owned by the City of Windsor — is being cleared of the long-standing Leisure Motel to make way for street upgrades.
Last month, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens announced the city had acquired the land to accommodate road reconstruction along the Cabana Road corridor as it turns into Division Road. According to the city, the sale price for the property is confidential under the purchasing agreement.

As Phase 4 continues, Cabana Road and connecting streets will be reduced to one lane in each direction for surface asphalt paving in four locations: Cabana from west of Dominion to Highway 3; approximately 100 metres of Glenwood Avenue north of Cabana; approximately 50 metres of Roxborough Boulevard north of Cabana; and Richardie Boulevard from its cul-de-sac to the Santo Drive intersection.
Road work on the corridor from Provincial Road east to Walker Road — Phase 5 of the corridor revamp — is currently in the design phase, with construction tentatively scheduled for 2025, subject to budget approval. Phase 5 is expected to cost around $25 million.
Since 2015, the city has invested roughly $45 million on Cabana Road upgrades between Provincial Road to Highway 3, transforming a dusty two-lane “farm road” without curbs. Dilkens has previously called it “a mess.”
But the city has now turned it into a four-lane arterial street with new sidewalks, gutters, painted bike lanes, street lighting, and boulevards with trees and sod.
Windsor is increasing its housing supply in part by planning to increase housing density along major transit corridors, including Cabana Road, so upgrades are needed.
