- Blackfield is an upcoming 2.5D survival title set in a dystopian alternate reality
- Navigate the threats of machine overlords and worse
- Survival mechanics, faction relations and more are all promised
In between the glut of news coming out of Gamescom today, we’ve got time to take a break and cover another upcoming game. This time it’s the spooky, monochrome, story-driven Blackfield. If you’re looking at this game and seeing shades of Limbo, the hit narrative platformer, I don’t blame you. But Blackfield promises to offer a little more depth, so let’s dig into what that entails.
First off, the story. Set in a parallel universe where humanity’s barely clinging to survival and threatened by both mechanical overlords and more nightmarish creatures, they fight for food and supplies. You play as eight-year-old Marta, who embarks on a journey to find her lost family. Along the way, she’s going to have to deal with enemies and allies alike if she wants to make it through with life and limb intact.
Yes, rather than just being a linear game, Blackfield also promises resource management, faction relations and other survival mechanics. Seemingly promising that this won’t merely be us following a story, but that there’s going to be plenty of active threats to deal with.

As for when it’s coming out, well, there’s the rub. Blackfield is slated for a release date in Q4 2025 and will be coming to mobile at some point too. However, we unfortunately don’t have a confirmed platform to share with you. But keep checking in and we’ll update as and when we find out more.
