- Sonic Rumble has hit soft launch in the Philippines!
- You can get your hands on it right now on Google Play, if you’re in the right territory
- Unfortunately, iOS seems to be off the cards for the moment
Those of you living in the Philippines will once more get early access to a mobile title, as Sonic Rumble dashes into soft launch on Google Play. This pseudo battle royale pits famous characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise against each other in multiplayer races to the finish line.
Unfortunately, it seems that iOS gamers will be out of luck as the game has disappeared from the App Store, but we’ll keep an eye on things to see if that changes. While Sonic has ebbed and flowed in popularity, this latest release seems to be part of a big move towards mobile that Sega has embarked on, especially since their acquisition of Angry Birds developers Rovio last year.
Whatever the case with this release, however, I definitely see shades of Stumble Guys. And aside from that, the mobile multiplayer scene is becoming increasingly saturated with both small and big-time players. So can Sonic really garner even fans to stand out? We’ll have to wait and see.
Rumble time
Personally, I’m not really sure Sonic Rumble can stand out. Multiplayer games struggle, despite what you may think, to stay relevant nowadays. Everyone has an increasingly limited amount of time, and there’s a reason so many mobile games boast about having offline modes, to cut down on the amount of data or wifi time people have to spend.
Still, at the very least it’s good to see that some people have it in hand. If you’re fretting about what you can play, however, don’t. Check out the latest entry in our regular feature of the top five new mobile games to try this week instead! I’m sure there’s something on there for you to enjoy.
