Outgoing president to take on advisory role
Sun Life US has announced leadership changes for its dental and group benefits businesses, effective September 2.
David Healy (pictured above, left), currently serving as president of group benefits, will transition to president of the dental business.
Joi Tillman (pictured above, right), currently the chief commercial dental officer, will step into the role of president of group benefits.
Healy, who has led group benefits since 2017, has overseen significant growth in the business, with investments in new capabilities and services aimed at simplifying benefits for clients and expanding access to care. His more than 20 years at Sun Life include leadership roles in US Operations and Technology, where he integrated services across business units and modernized IT delivery.
Healy also played a key role in the integration of Assurant Employee Benefits, acquired by Sun Life in 2016, and was instrumental in the 2018 acquisition of insurtech Maxwell Health.
Tillman, who has previously led Sun Life’s voluntary, dental, and vision businesses, brings deep group distribution relationships and a focus on leveraging technology for client value and business growth. During the pandemic, she played a key role in transitioning to virtual enrollment capabilities, allowing members to sign up for benefits remotely.
Tillman joined Sun Life with the acquisition of Assurant Employee Benefits, where she was senior vice president of Voluntary, and has held various positions in underwriting, risk management, operations, and human resources. In her current role as leader of commercial dental, she has secured large new clients and enhanced the capabilities to support them.
Healy succeeds Steve Pollock, who is moving into an advisory role following the completion of key integration milestones from Sun Life’s 2022 acquisition of DentaQuest.
In his new advisory role, Pollock will assist in ensuring a smooth transition for the Dental business.
Pollock’s contributions during his tenure at DentaQuest include expanding market growth in government and commercial group solutions for dental and vision. In his upcoming advisory role, he will help facilitate a smooth transition within the dental business.
Dan Fishbein, president of Sun Life US, highlighted the internal talent leading these transitions. He noted Healy’s extensive experience in modernizing group digital capabilities, expanding partnerships, and focusing on health services, which will continue to be a focus in his new role overseeing the Dental business.
Fishbein also praised Tillman’s 35 years of experience in group benefits, particularly her work in driving innovations that help members navigate and utilize their benefits.
