Police believe a gunman is on the run after a man was fatally shot in Sydney’s west overnight.
Just after 3.30am on Monday, police were called to a unit block on Harold Street, Parramatta, after reports of a shooting. When ambulance crews arrived, they found a man, believed to have been 29, with gunshot wounds.
Paramedics treated the man, but he died at the scene.
Police declared a crime scene that will be examined by specialist police on Monday.
Just 15 minutes after the man died, a sedan was found engulfed in flames on A’Beckett Street in Granville.
The car was reported as stolen. Fire and Rescue NSW crews extinguished the blaze, but the car was destroyed.
Police are treating the fire as suspicious, and are investigating any potential links to the shooting.
Two men were seen leaving the scene of the fire in another vehicle.
Detectives are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage or information about either incident to come forward and contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
