With the preseason in the books, Eliot Wolf and Jerod Mayo will now be tasked with whittling the Patriots roster down to 53 players by 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
It’ll take more than three dozen roster moves, and the Patriots braintrust got things rolling on Monday morning following a 20-10 loss to the Commanders in the preseason finale.
Here’s a full rundown of all the moves New England has made thus far. Everything here has been reported and/or confirmed by MassLive’s Patriots team of Karen Guregian, Mark Daniels, and Chris Mason, unless otherwise noted:
CUT: DT Josiah Bronson: A veteran defensive tackle added a few days into camp, Bronson wasn’t able to make much of an impact despite Christian Barmore’s absence.
CUT: T Zuri Henry: With tackle positions up for grabs, the undrafted free agent out of UTEP wasn’t able to climb the depth chart this summer.
CUT: DE Christian McCarroll: Signed by the Patriots on Aug. 20, McCarroll’s stint in Foxborough was a brief one.
CUT: C Charles Turner: With the Patriots thin at center behind David Andrews, Turner was never really able to make a push for a backup role. Instead, the team relied on Nick Leverett and tried to convert Atonio Mafi to center.
CUT: CB Mikey Victor: The big defensive back out of Alabama State made some plays this summer, but ultimately fell short in a deep cornerback rook.
CUT: TE Jacob Warren: With the No. 3 tight end spot up for grabs, the undrafted free agent out of Tennessee wasn’t able to scale the depth chart.
CUT: RB Deshaun Fenwick: Running back depth in New England is set with Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson at the top. Kevin Harris and JaMychal Hasty were next in line.
CUT: DE William Bradley-King: The Patriots traded Matthew Judon, but their depth on the edge has been decent this summer with Keion White, Josh Uche, Anfernee Jennings, Deatrich Wise, and Oshane Ximines.
CUT: LB Steele Chambers: The Patriots brought the undrafted free agent in this offseason. Ja’Whaun Bentley, Jahlani Tavai and Raekwon McMillan established themselves at the top of the depth chart quickly.
CUT: DL Sam Roberts: The 2022 sixth-round pick had some solid moments this summer, but fell behind the likes of Jeremiah Pharms and Trysten Hill at defensive tackle. He could be a practice squad candidate.
CUT: WR Kawaan Baker: The Patriots had stiff competition at receiver this offseason. Baker was clearly behind the likes of Tyquan Thornton, Kayshon Boutte, Jalean Reagor as well as rookies Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker.
CUT: CB Azizi Hearn: The physical cornerback could be a practice squad candidate once again. Hearn had some solid moments in training camp, but a lackluster preseason finale undoubtedly hurt his push for a roster spot.
CUT: TE La’Michael Pettway: Stuck behind veteran Mitchell Wilcox and seventh-rounder Jaheim Bell on the depth chart, Pettway was fighting an uphill battle in the race for the third tight end spot.
CUT: LS Tucker Addington: Joe Cardona will serve as New England’s longsnapper for the 10th straight season, as the Patriots opted to part ways with Addington on Monday morning. The backup longsnapper was signed midway through camp and felt like more of an insurance policy for Cardona than he did competition. He was Wolf’s first known cut following the finale.
