HAHN THE HATER

Re “Hit the road, Hahn!” (Bryan Passifiume, Aug. 24): Who determines what is anti-Semitic, the author of the comment or the recipient? So, when Hahn says his remarks are not anti-Semitic, shouldn’t it be my decision as a Jew whether they are or not? In the same vein, if I started to call Black people using that despicable, hateful term, the “N” word, saying it is alright because it was common practice in the South one hundred years ago, wouldn’t Black people be calling me a racist? So, Fred Hahn, Jews everywhere, including your own union members, declare that your comments over the past ten months about Israel are definitely anti-Semitic. Enough with the hate already!
Joel Rosenberg
(He’s despicable. How he is still in the position he’s in does not bode well for some parts of the labour movement)

PREACHING HATE
Re “Islamic preacher spreading anti-Semitism across Canada” (Brian Lilley, Aug. 24): That’s the thing with bigots. They begin with the Jews and end with everyone else.
Paul MacDonald
(That’s true. Equally unacceptable and has no place here)
SELFIES FOR THE PEOPLE
I really don’t understand why, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shows up at picnics, exhibitions or various other events, some people are actually enthused to have selfies taken with him as if he is some kind of celebrity. It is sickening.
Does he think that this is all it takes for some gullible people to vote for him? Maybe so.
Do you think he would show up at the multitude of homeless camps or his approved so-called “safe drug” locations or some of the endless Palestinian protests for selfies? Don’t think so.

BACK TO THE BASICS, PLEASE
What we need is for all levels of government to get back to the basics and not wait until things such as infrastructure reach the crisis stage before getting their attention.
We don’t elect people to spend all their time and our money on special interest groups, ignoring their main responsibilities. Remember, there is only one taxpayer, and we expect politicians at every level to just do their jobs responsibly.
