- Dread Rune is a top-down roguelike dungeoncrawler, out now for iOS and Android
- It caught our eye with a bevy of features, including fifteen playable classes, distinct dungeon regions and more
- The latest update adds a host of new items, enemies and more
A lot of the games that pop up on our radar only do so after they get a significant update. That’s because there are so many games releasing nowadays that keeping up with them can be a real pain. Fortunately, we spotted today’s subject thanks to a recent update; so what caught our eye about Dread Rune?
Well, for one this isometric Diablo-like dungeon crawler looks to be very solid feature-wise. In gameplay terms it’s exactly what you’d expect from a roguelike dungeon crawler as you head into a deep labyrinth full of enemies, traps and obstacles, trying to get as deep as possible before you inevitably fall victim.
But it’s the bevvy of features that really makes Dread Rune stand out. Whether it’s the 15 playable classes (including favourites like Ranger and Mage), the destructible environments, five distinct regions of dungeon, huge number of items or random events, this is a game with some stand-out aspects.
A real D&D-like
In particular, I noted the real-time controls you can see in the trailer coupled with all the various systems in play. Often when it comes to RPGs you either get very rules-lite real-time titles, or more granular but slower games. Yet it seems that Dread Rune is trying to marry the two in a quite intriguing way. So I’m interested to see how this game turns out!
The latest update includes new enemies like the Coin Bandit, additional items like the Horn of Valhalla & more. So check Dread Rune out now on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
