The drama in San Francisco is finally over as wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has reached an agreement to stay with the team.
According to multiple reports, Aiyuk and the 49ers have agreed to a four-year extension that will keep the wideout in the Bay Area for four more years.
Aiyuk’s extension is for $120million in total, making him tied for fifth among the highest paid wide receivers by average annual value.
It’s a huge pay-day for Aiyuk, with the wide receiver’s agent – Ryan Williams – posting a screenshot of a facetime call of the two of them smiling.
San Francisco has now tied the pass catcher down to one of two contracts on the team worth at least $30m – with the other belonging to pass rusher Nick Bosa.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will remain with the San Francisco 49ers after a contract holdout
The saga surrounding Aiyuk lasted almost the entire offseason – with the first day of the NFL regular season coming one week from today.
Aiyuk had been holding out of training camp for weeks in order to facilitate these discussions – and even publicly requested to be traded.
Other chapters in that saga include a tweet at Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.
He also posted photos with Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels – who he was teammates with in college at Arizona State University.
That included snaps from a FaceTime call where Aiyuk said ‘they don’t want me back’.
Aiyuk was reportedly nearly traded multiple times – but now that issue has been settled and he will be staying with the Niners.
