In 2018, Mel B teased a potential Spice Girls performance at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s royal wedding. However, fans’ hopes were quickly crushed when Mel C confessed that they hadn’t received an invite.
The band’s infamous encounter with King Charles made headlines in 1997 thanks to Geri Horner cheekily pinching him on the bottom.
Speaking two decades on, Mel C told the Mirror: “I always look forward to seeing Charles. We have a bit of chuckle about the old bottom pinch all those years ago.”
She said she had to clarify to the King that she was the culprit behind the pinch, adding: “I said, ‘It wasn’t me!’ and he said, ‘I know who it was!’.”
Mel B sparked reunion rumours at the time when she detailed a get-together at Geri’s house and hinted it involved talks of a Royal wedding gig and a comeback tour.
She said: “We had a lovely day when we got together, and it had been a very long time. We have seen each other, two here, one there, as all friends do.”
Mel B also let slip on the US show The Real that all five members were set to attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s nuptials in Windsor in what would have been their first full reunion since the London Olympics.
She said: “Yeah, I’m going. I don’t know if I should’ve said that. Well, us five Spice Girls… why am I so honest?”
When probed about whether the Spice Girls would be performing at the event, Mel B humorously retorted: “This is where I’m just like… I need to go. I’m going to be fired.”
Mel C, Mel B, Geri and Emma Bunton returned to the stage in 2019 for a UK-wide tour.
Opening up about what she discovered from their last tour, Mel C told Steven Bartlett on his Diary of a CEO podcast: “I learned that it was a shame that we couldn’t fully appreciate it at the time. You’re a little bit in survival mode, you’re just, at points, going through emotions.
“This incredible thing happens to you and it’s so hard to appreciate it, because it’s so intense, you know.”
She went on to say, as reported by the Mirror: “Whenever us girls get together, there are little triggers and I’m scared. But, I have to face them because I’ve learned through experience of the other things that have gone on to do with the girls.
“We reunited in 2007, the Olympics (2012), [the tour in] 2019. Face the fear and actually beautiful things happen.”
