CD Projekt Red has given a progress update on The Witcher 4. Currently known as codename Polaris, The Witcher 4 will enter full production “very soon”, as per Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski.
The update was revealed during the latest earnings call where Nowakowski was explaining that while the Polaris team’s strength has only slightly increased (407 members on April 30, 2024, to 410 members as of July 31, 2024), the team is “maintaining the right scale to enter the production stage very soon.”
As per the stats revealed, there are currently 639 employees across CD Projekt Red, and 410 of them are working on The Witcher 4.
The Witcher 4 will be the first CD Projekt game to be made in Unreal Engine 5, with the development studio moving on from their own REDengine for the upcoming title. CD Projekt Red has previously announced that two more The Witcher games released after Polaris, thus creating a new “AAA RPG trilogy”.
Cyberpunk 2077 sequel update
An Update for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel was also provided during this call. Cyberpunk 2077 sequel or codename Orion currently has 60 members, with a slight increase in workforce as there were 54 members working on the next Cyberpunk title back in April 2024.
Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is being led by the new Boston studio, and the team has been “laying the ground” for Project Orion “during a busy period” in the first half of the year for the team, as per CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz. He also revealed that the team is close to moving on from the research phase to the production phase for the upcoming Cyberpunk sequel.
