Authorities were investigating a shooting reported in Camarillo Thursday evening that may have involved more than one victim and is believed to be connected to a stabbing earlier in the day.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, which is contracted for police services in the city, responded to a gunshot report around 5:10 p.m. in the 3400 block of Huerta Court, near the cross with Calle Cita, said Capt. James Sullivan.
Sheriff’s detectives believe the shooting was connected to a stabbing near Rice Avenue and Channel Islands Boulevard outside Oxnard shortly after 1 p.m., Sullivan said. The stabbing victim had been critically injured and the suspect had fled, prompting a search. No update was available on the stabbing victim’s condition as of 6 p.m.
A suspect was in custody Thursday evening for the shooting incident, Sullivan said.
Residents in the area had been advised to shelter-in-place due to the police activity.
Soon after the initial gunshot report, a possible second gunshot victim was said to be at the Camarillo police station at 3701 Las Posas Road, according to radio traffic from the scene.
Sullivan could not confirm whether there was a second gunshot victim, but did say the person at the Camarillo police station was believed to be connected to the Huerta Court incident.
No information was immediately available on the condition of the shooting victim or victims.
