- Zephyr’s Pass is a newly-released RPG for the GameBoy Color!
- Wait, what? Yes, that’s right, a new physical cartridge out now for that venerable handheld
- And you can also get it digitally if you don’t fancy fiddling with carts
Yes, you read that headline right. No, you haven’t gone back in time, instead, you’re once more seeing another new title for the long thought-defunct Game Boy Color hitting store shelves. Well, not shelves maybe, but Zephyr’s Pass is certainly going to be a big hit for fans of that ancient and venerable handheld as it launches as a physical cartridge today. It comes courtesy of publisher Incube8, who you may recognise from the recent release Kien, and developer Providential Innovations,
Zephyr’s Pass sees you take on the role of Abel, a young man who teams up with a band of pirates in order to take on a mysterious villain attempting to become the Wind God. You’ll explore the overworld and traverse dungeons in Zeldaesque style in order to acquire all the ancient relics and gain the power needed to defeat the villain.
But what if you don’t have a Game Boy Color? Good question! And as for the answer, if you’ve got any familiarity with emulators, whether that be on PC or mobile, you’ll be glad to know that Zephyr’s Pass will also be available digitally! So if you’re not into collectibles or just want to grab it for a more modern system, keep your eye out for Zephyr’s Pass Digital Edition.

While the bedroom in that trailer does seem a little bit, er, melty (three guesses why) I have to appreciate the artistry that’s gone into the game itself. It certainly takes a developer with either a lot of guts or a lot of passion for the venerable GameBoy Color to release a new game for it so many years later.
