- Sonic Speed Simulator is the top new branded Roblox experience
- It’s reportedly the first to cross more than one billion visits
- Does this mean Gen Z is warming up to the blue speedster?
Gamefam’s Sonic Speed Simulator has, reportedly, become the first branded Roblox experience to crack more than one billion visits. The experience, which lets you play as Sonic and friends as well as collect themed cosmetics for your avatar, is now one of the most-visited on the platform.
It’s a pretty big step for the bright blue hedgehog. Of course, it’s worth noting that the branded qualifier is doing a bit of lifting here. It’s not the biggest difference of course, but Roblox will always be first and foremost a platform driven by community-created content.
Still, when you look at the big picture it seems as if Sonic has gone from strength to strength, which is ironic for the mascot of a now-defunct console and one whose more recent games have run the gamut from good to bad over the past two decades.
Does Gen Z want Sonic?
There’s also something else worth noting. Sonic often gets tarred with the nostalgia brush a bit, where many comment he’s only popular because of the misplaced fondness older fans have, but given Roblox’s younger audience does that mean even players who aren’t familiar with him are coming around to the blue speedster?
It’s a tantalising possibility. But for the rest of us, this may be more of a curiosity than anything. Although it may lend a bit more weight to the potential success of more upcoming Sonic games, like Sonic Rumble.
