Vanessa Feltz was left challenging a caller during her LBC show on Saturday (August 31) after they compared Angela Rayner to Vicky Pollard. The dispute came after the Deputy Prime Minister was spotted dancing behind a DJ deck in Ibiza last week.
Angela, 44, was partying at Hi Ibiza and could be seen belting out the lyrics to a remix of Gotye’s hit song Somebody That I Used To Know to a large, cheering crowd.
Discussing the Labour MP’s holiday on the White Isle, one caller was not amused and compared her to the fictional character from Little Britain leaving host Vanessa questioning their insult.
Speaking about Angela, the LBC caller named Lee, said: “You’re not a child, you’re a grown up now, in a grown up world, with grown up responsibilities.”
Vanessa quickly chimed in: “You see a lot of people will say, well, ‘it is very grown up to be in a nightclub’, larging it.
“That’s what people do when they’re grown up. You’re allowed in the nightclub, you’re allowed to drink alcohol, there’s no bossy adult to tell you to go to bed so you don’t have to go to bed.
“You can just rave, you can bleach it right through the night till the next morning, yahoo! Fanstatic.”
Lee replied: “Well, it’s great. We can all let our hair down like that, but she’s really coming across as the Vicky Pollard, Catherine Tate, of the party.”
Vicky Pollard, played by Matt Lucas, was a fictional character from the sitcom Little Britain who was famed for smoking cigarettes, drinking cheap cider and acting irresponsibly.
Vanessa quickly interrupted: “See I wonder if you’re being snobby.”
The caller disagreed with the host’s comment and said he was “being realistic”.
“Vicky Pollard, though”, Vanessa repeated. “That’s not a compliment.”
Lee then exclaimed: “The power of her office, it’s such an honour to hold that office.”
Vanessa was quick to cut in and ask what the caller would consider the type of fun Angela Rayner should be allowed to do on holiday.
“I think she just needs to be more conscious,” Lee added.
Vanessa Feltz appears on LBC every Saturday afternoon from 3pm to 6pm.
