Regina Rams
The University of Regina Rams beat the Calgary Dinos 24-16 to begin the Canada West football season 1-0.
On Friday night, quarterback Owen Sieben scored the first major for the Rams with an 11-yard touchdown run before leaving the game with an injury in the second quarter. Backup Noah Pelletier came into the game and guided the Rams to an opening-week victory.

Regina’s defence played strong in the win, as they gave up just two single points through the first three quarters, before giving up a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Max Polischuk, Cameron Mah and Garret Hatchard had interceptions for Regina.
Regina is now set for its home opener on Friday (7 p.m. Mosaic Stadium) against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
Regina Thunder
After a bye week, the Regina Thunder will look to remain undefeated in the Prairie Football Conference this weekend.
At 3-0, the Thunder — coming off back-to-back shutout performances — will host the Saskatoon Hilltops (3-0) on Saturday (7 p.m., Mosaic Stadium) in a battle of undefeated teams.
Flag football
Team Canada’s men’s flag football team finished in seventh place at the IFAF World Flag Football Championships in Finland last week.
Led by Regina product Mason Nyhus at quarterback, Canada lost to Switzerland 27-21 in the quarter-finals before beating Denmark 45-33 in the final game of the event. Nyhus finished the event with six touchdown passes.
Canada’s roster also featured Saskatoon products Mitch Willis, Chad Braun, Nixen Voll, Kyle Siemens, Clovis Lukema, Everett Iverson and Colton Klassen. Saskatoon’s Chad Palmer served as the head coach while Regina’s Joel Lipinski was the assistant coach. Saskatoon’s Michelle Keene was the team’s athletic therapist.

Meanwhile, Canada’s women’s team beat Spain 39-24 in their final game to take fifth place at the tournament.
Regina Cougars
With the exhibition schedule in the books, the University of Regina Cougars women’s soccer team will begin play in the Canada West conference this weekend.
On Saturday, the Cougars will host the Alberta Pandas at the U of R Field at 12 p.m. before taking on the MacEwan Griffins on Sunday, also at 12 p.m.
