We need a change in our provincial government and Regina city council from the top down. They both seem to like these mega projects. The government wants to spend a pile of money on a new irrigation project with no feasibility study for taxpayers to see. Remember the Rafferty Dam?
The city wants to keep increasing our debt limit. Do we really need a new aquatic centre? Wouldn’t redoing the Lawson Aquatic Centre be a lot cheaper, even it meant closing it for a while?

It also seems like we keep pumping money into the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant. By now, we could have built a couple of pipelines from the South Saskatchewan River. The streets are terrible. The Ring Road is full of patches and cracks. And what about our water mains?
Do we want to end up like Calgary and Montreal? The taxes in this city are getting pretty high and the city should step back and look where the money is going.
Meanwhile, Premier Scott Moe wants to spend money on a mega-projects. Yet our health care is poor, our education is poor and our cost of living is high, with us paying more taxes.

City Council most go, too
This edition of people who sit in city council chambers have got to be the most dysfunctional group I have ever witnessed. The bickering and the cost overruns on projects being built or yet to be built is mind-boggling. Every city has its issues. I get that.
However, week in and week out, there is so much drama in city council meetings. Yet nothing gets resolved without finger-pointing and bad-mouthing each other. Honestly, it’s almost becoming like House of Commons. Oh, my God!

The most embarrassing ball diamond in Western Canada Baseball is called Currie Field, named after a great man and coach of young men. Saskatoon is already looking at building a huge entertainment complex downtown with a new arena — its second one in 40 years.
Our arena was built in 1977 — close to 50 years ago. We can’t even get the cost right on a new indoor pool or a new library. We spent far too much on an outdoor pool, that is open for four months, instead of putting money towards a new state-of-the-art indoor pool that can be used year around.
I know nothing is easy and everyone has their hands out. But it just feels like this current edition of council has lost its way. Council needs a cleansing. I hope the good people of Regina pay attention and make their voices heard during the upcoming elections this fall.
