New colleague brings over 15 years of industry experience
Markel, the insurance arm of Markel Group, has announced the appointment of Jamie Mullarkey (pictured) as global executive underwriting officer for property and first-party lines.
In his new role, Mullarkey will oversee the strategic direction for property and first-party lines, driving key initiatives and fostering opportunities across various divisions. He will be instrumental in shaping the underwriting strategy and promoting collaboration across the firm’s global operations.
Robin Russo, Markel’s executive vice president of insurance, commented: “We are pleased to welcome Jamie Mullarkey to Markel. He has a strong background on both the brokerage and carrier sides of the industry and in working cross-functionally to achieve organizational effectiveness.
Mullarkey brings more than one and a half decades of experience in the insurance industry, having worked at other insurers and at Marsh. The appointment comes on the heels of Grant Smith being named as director of marine & energy liability for Markel’s international specialty unit in August.
“Clients currently face a challenging environment, because of economic inflation and changes to regulatory and legal frameworks, combined with emerging technological and climate-related liability risks, making it increasingly important to ensure they have insurance cover that meets their evolving needs,” international specialty managing director Tom Hillier said at the time.
“When we established the specialty practice within our international wholesale business last year, we set out ambitious goals for our marine & energy liability team, centered on the delivery of sustainable, profitable growth and establishing ourselves as a leader in the market in terms of underwriting and service.”
Globally, Markel operates Markel Specialty, Markel International, Markel Global Reinsurance, State National, and Nephila.
