There are three core modes in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. It’s easy to work out whether you can play the campaign or PvP solo, but Operations sits somewhere in the middle and has a few caveats, depending on what you’re trying to do.
Operations are replayable missions in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 that fill out the story from the campaign. You play as Space Marines working alongside protagonist Titus, doing the jobs that enable him to continue carving a path through the Tyranid forces. However, while they do have online functionality, they’re not strictly online-only content. But I still wouldn’t advise playing them solo or offline, and I’ve explained why below.
How to play Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 Operations mode solo
To play Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Operations mode solo, you need to launch the game while connected to the internet to avoid the infinite loading screen error. Then, you must disconnect from the internet while the game is still running to enter offline mode. If you launch an Operation from the Battle Barge now, it’ll be a solo experience.
Should you play Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 Operations mode solo?
No, I don’t recommend playing Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Operations mode solo. The reason for this is that your progress isn’t saved if you play Operations offline. You earn XP for your account and currency towards new cosmetics for Operations and Eternal War when you play online, and playing without getting any of that feels pointless.
However, Operations are designed to be fun and replayable, so if you have no choice but to play offline, then you should go ahead and do so. It’ll give you a chance to practice with all the different classes and go into the online version of the game mode with a load of skill under your belt.
These missions are, after all, about fleshing out the campaign’s story and showing you what the other characters were doing while you were cutting down the enemies of The Imperium. For example, have you ever wondered what it was like setting a fire so large it cut down the Tyranid horde that was set to overrun a planet? Or what it’s like ramming a Battle Barge into a colossal power source?
These are the Warhammer 40K power fantasies you get to experience if you play Operations mode, and I can’t recommend them enough as a fan of the universe just because every inch of the story and lore is so engrossing.
