Two boys have been found dead in a Blue Mountains home and their mother is in hospital with self-inflicted wounds.
Emergency services were called to a home on Chapman Parade in Faulconbridge just before 1pm on Tuesday, where the bodies of the boys aged nine and 11 were found by their father. A major police investigation has now been launched.
Police Commissioner Karen Webb will address the media about the tragedy at 4pm.
The boys’ father, who was separated from their mother and did not live with them at the Blue Mountains address, called triple zero when he found the bodies of the two children and his former partner in distress and injured.
The boys’ 42-year-old mother was taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard and in a stable condition. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community and no one else is being sought in relation to the deaths.
There was no family history of domestic violence, police sources said.
Police are investigating whether a psychotic episode was a potential cause of the tragedy.
Barbara Faith, who lives on Chapman Parade, told the ABC she had often seen the boys riding their bikes home from school together.
