Chelsea are still working to trim their squad this week with talks ongoing to sell David Datro Fofana to AEK Athens before the Greek transfer window closes.
The transfer window has slammed shut in England but in Greece it remains ajar until Wednesday
The Blues are hoping to take advantage of that and secure a move for the Ivory Coast forward, although they are expecting to make a loss on him.
The Athletic reports that Chelsea are happy to accept less than the £8.4m they paid Molde for Fofana in January 2023, although add-ons could see the deal worth more than that figure.
The 21-year-old has made just four appearances for Chelsea since moving to Stamford Bridge, failing to score in any of them.
He spent last season on two loan spells, firstly with Bundesliga side Union Berlin, where he scored twice in 17 appearances and then at Burnley where he netted four times in 15 outings.
it now seems likely that he will continue his career in Greece as he has been cast aside from the first team at Stamford Bridge as part of the ‘bomb squad’ that has developed this summer.
After another immensely busy summer in the transfer market for Chelsea the club made the ruthless move of casting a number of players away from the first team squad as they tried to force them out.
The likes of Raheem Sterling, Conor Gallagher, Tino Anjorin, Armando Broja, Trevoh Chalobah and Djorde Petrovic have all secured moves away either permanently or on loan deals.
However, others have not been able to find a new club and look set for months out of action with the Blues.
Chief among those players in limbo is England international Ben Chilwell who has not attracted interest despite being available for transfer.
