Dave Grohl has shocked fans by releasing a statement in which he revealed he cheated on his wife and has welcomed a baby with another woman.
The Nirvana rocker, 55, admitted to fathering a child for the fourth time – but this time, ‘outside of my marriage’.
‘I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,’ the Foo Fighters frontman wrote in a statement posted to Instagram on Tuesday night.
‘I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her,’ he continued. ‘I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.’
He added: ‘We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together. Dave.’
The popular musician has been married to his wife for more than 20 years.
Who is Dave Grohl’s wife?
Grohl tied the knot with director Jordyn Blum in August 2023.
The couple largely keeps their relationship out of the public eye, but are understood to have met in 2001 at the Sunset Marquis Whiskey in West Hollywood.
In one of his quite rare comments about their relationship, Grohl revealed that they almost didn’t get together.
‘When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling,’ he shared in a 2007 interview with Elle.
However, he soon changed his mind.
‘After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, “Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again”.’
Blum, 48, was previously a teen model and worked as a TV producer.
She is thought to have been working for MTV when she met her now-husband.
Has Dave Grohl been married before?
Prior to his wedding with Blum, Grohl was previously hitched to another woman.
In 1994, he married photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood, the same year that Grohl’s Nirvana bandmate Kurt Cobain died aged 27.
Just over two years later, in December 1996, the spouses had separated. They divorced the following year.
Grohl admitted to infidelity during their marriage, which led to their separation according to The Guardian – as well as the departure of Youngblood’s good friend, guitarist Pat Smear, from the Foo Fighters. Grohl and Smear later reconciled.
Who are Dave Grohl’s kids?
After marrying Blum, the pair went on to welcome three daughters together.
Eldest daughter Violet Maye, named after Grohl’s grandmother, was born in April 2006.
A talented singer herself now, the 18-year-old sometimes performs with her father – including during the Foo Fighters’ surprise Glastonbury set in 2023.
It was Grohl’s late bandmate Taylor Hawkins who accidentally revealed the news of Violet’s arrival in an interview with MTV.
While discussing the group’s touring schedule, and revealing its end date was due to Grohl becoming a first-time father, Hawkins admitted: ‘But I probably wasn’t supposed to tell you that.’
Second daughter, Harper Willow, was born in 2009 – and is named after the drummer’s great uncle.
Ophelia Saint was then born in August 2014.
What has Dave Grohl said about his wife?
With Blum largely staying away from the spotlight, the couple keeps things quite private.
However, Blum has made some exceptions for public appearances – starring in the music video for the band’s song White Limo, for example.
She and their three daughters also supported Grohl on the red carpet at last year’s Grammy Awards.
Grohl though has paid tribute to his wife with sweet comments over the years, including describing her and their eldest (and only, at the time) child as ‘anchors that keep me from completely disappearing’.
He has also revealed some of the songs that she has inspired, including Burn Away, which he described as a ‘prom ballad’.
Another is the track Statues from the album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
‘That song is about my wife and me,’ he told GQ in a 2008 interview.
‘To me there’s nothing more beautiful than seeing the headstones of a husband and wife side by side in a graveyard.’
