Moose Jaw chief of police Rick Bourassa has announced he will retire from the force in 2025 after 45 years in policing.
Bourassa took the helm in Moose Jaw on October 4, 2013 after a 31-year career with the Regina Police Service and a short time with the Government of Saskatchewan, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Moose Jaw Police Service.
“It is with mixed emotions that I make this decision to retire,” Bourassa said in the release. “I have been grateful to have been in policing for so many years, to have worked with so many exceptional people, and to have been welcomed by the amazing community of Moose Jaw.”

The statement did not indicate whether Bourassa will pursue employment elsewhere.
Moose Jaw Police Commission chair Crystal Froese said in the release that Bourassa’s commitment to public safety and the well-being of Moose Jaw has been “unwavering.”
Further, she stated that the commission will be looking to fill the vacancy with someone who “shares our dedication to the safety and security of Moose Jaw.”
The release added that Moose Jaw’s outgoing top cop will confirm an official retirement date in January 2025, when the new Board of Police Commissioners is appointed.
