Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will travel to the United States later this month, visiting President Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware for a meeting of the Quad leaders.
Biden will host Albanese, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Wilmington, Delaware on September 21, US officials said overnight.
The summit in the United States will be the fourth in-person meeting of Quad leaders.
“This will be President Biden’s first time hosting foreign leaders in Wilmington as president – a reflection of his deep personal relationships with each of the Quad leaders, and the importance of the Quad to all of our countries,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
Biden has been spending more time in his home state since he dropped his bid for re-election in July and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the November 5 presidential election.
In a statement confirming his attendance at the meeting, Albanese said that the group would “work together to shape the kind of region in which we want to live.”
“We are always better off when we act together with our close friends and partners,” the statement concluded.
