Strictly Come Dancing contestant Toyah Willcox previously admitted that she felt like she had “premature Alzheimer’s” after undergoing a major cosmetic surgery. The 66-year-old singer said that she “lost the ability” to do basic tasks not long after having a face lift.
Toyah has been openly honest about her cosmetic surgery journey to give her a more youthful look – even writing a book about it. In her Diary of a Facelift, the star, who has had a successful career spanning more than 40 years, explained the after effects of going under the knife.
She wrote: “I woke at about 1am thinking about why I seem to have developed premature Alzheimer’s. I have lost my ability to spell even the simplest of words and I cannot even comprehend basic technical things such as entering a password into the computer.”
Toyah expressed her husband, Robert Fripp’s, concerns for her wellbeing as she continued: “Before leaving for the US, Richard had discreetly mentioned that after a full week of being post-operative, he was somewhat concerned about the state of my mental faculties. The anaesthetic should have worn off so there shouldn’t have been any lingering symptoms other than tiredness.”
However, the unusual side effects only seemed to be temporary with Toyah offering an explanation to her symptoms in the next day’s diary entry. She penned: “Good! Good! And bloody good! The ga-ga effect is wearing off.

“It was definitely the combination of post-operative body shock and my having stopped taking supplements.”
The I Want To Be Free singer explained how other people’s words had caused her to believe that she didn’t look good enough and that was the reason for her seeking such a drastic change to her appearance. Toyah wrote: “On returning home [from I’m a Celeb], I read various derogoratory newspaper articles about my jungle experience, and listened to hurtful comments being made about me on a variety of TV and radio programmes.
“Jonathan Ross on his Radio Two show, which has around eight million listeners, said I looked so awful I shouldn’t be allowed to be seen on TV, and that I should go away and do something about it.
“Various male writers in a number of tabloids backed up this view. The worst thing was that even though I found opinions such as these little more than an expression of body fascism, secretly I agreed with them.”
She added: “This difficult period in my life gave me the determination to seek some sort of cosmetic surgery, which I intended to see through to the end.”
Singer and actress Toyah was announced as the fourth contestant in the line up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, later this year. Speaking of appearing on the BBC dance show, Toyah said: “Wow Strictly Come Dancing, can you believe it!
“This is going to be a wild and wonderful ride, and I’m here for every sparkly second. I’m used to performing for big crowds but this is completely fresh for me, how I will do, it’s a mystery… I just want to get cracking and learn some dance routines now!”
