In a concerning development, stolen customer data including medical reports from India’s biggest health insurer, Star Health Insurance, is publicly accessible via chatbots on Telegram.
According to a report by Reuters, a security researcher alerted the outlet that the alleged creator of the chatbots claimed that the private information of millions of individuals was being sold. The creator suggested that samples of this data could be accessed by prompting the chatbots to disclose it.

Star Health and Allied Insurance, which has a market capitalization of over $4 billion, stated to Reuters that it has reported suspected unauthorized data access to local authorities. However, the company reassured that there has been no widespread compromise and that customers’ sensitive data remains secure.
Using the chatbots, Reuters report says it was able to obtain policy and claims documents containing names, phone numbers, addresses, tax information, copies of ID cards, test results, and medical diagnoses.
