I FEEL LIKE WE’VE GOT PARELLA LEWIS IN THE STUDIO WITH US. PARELLA. I KNOW IT’S THE FIRST DAY OF FALL. ARE WE EXPECTING THOSE FALL LIKE TEMPERATURES TODAY? I WISH I COULD TELL YOU, YES, BUT THE ANSWER, OF COURSE, IS NO. WE WERE JOKING EARLIER. IT’S HOT. RIGHT? THE FIRST DAY OF FALL. BUT IT’S GOING TO BE HOT TODAY. NOW AGAIN, FOUR PEOPLE ARE DEAD, FOUR OTHERS ARE FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES. DOZENS SHOT IN TOTAL. THE SHOOTERS ARE STILL ON THE RUN THIS MORNING. NOW, AS FOR OTHER QUESTIONS, POLICE ARE LOOKING TO ANSWER RIGHT NOW WHETHER THE SUSPECTS RAN UP OR DROVE BY DURING THE SHOOTING. ALSO, WHETHER OR NOT GLOCK SWITCHES WERE USED. WE ARE INVESTIGATING THAT THERE’S MULTIPLE SHOOTINGS AND WE ARE INVESTIGATING THAT THERE POSSIBLY WAS A SWITCH USE, WHICH GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW IMPORTANT IT IS. WE GET ANYONE AND EVERYONE WHO HAS THAT IN THEIR ARSENAL OFF OF OUR STREETS. THAT WAS OFFICER TRUMAN FITZGERALD WITH THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT. NOW, AS POLICE INVESTIGATE THIS CASE, THEY ARE PLEADING WITH THE PUBLIC TO COME FORWARD WITH INFORMATION, ESPECIALLY BUSINESS OWNERS HERE IN THIS AREA WHO MAY HAVE CAPTURED WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT ON SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE. WE’RE TOLD BOTH INCIDENTS ARE NOW UNDER INVESTIGATION. AND IN CLINTON, A LOCAL COLLEGE IS HONORING FIRST RESPONDERS FOR PUTTING OUT A FIRE THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED A WHOLE LOT MORE DAMAGE TO THEIR COMMUNITY. OUR JAMYA JAMYA WAS THERE AND HAS THIS STORY. PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO SAY THANK YOU AT THEIR FOOTBALL GAME TO THE FIRST RESPONDERS TO KEEP THEM SAFE, NO MATTER THE TASK. WE WERE JUST VERY GRATEFUL THAT DUE TO THEIR HARD WORK, THAT WE WERE ABLE TO TO SAVE AS MANY BUILDINGS AS WE AS WE CAN. PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE, ALONG WITH THE CLINTON COMMUNITY, PAID TRIBUTE TO 31 AGENCIES THROUGHOUT LAURENS COUNTY AND THE UPSTATE. OUR STUDENTS HAVE WRITTEN THEM LETTERS. THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT PASSED A RESOLUTION THANKING THEM FOR WHAT THEY DID FOR THE TOWN. ON AUGUST 27TH. THEY TOOK OUT A FIRE THAT DESTROYED SEVERAL BUSINESSES IN DOWNTOWN CLINTON. THE COLLEGE CHOSE TO SPOTLIGHT THEM DURING HALFTIME AT THEIR FOOTBALL GAME. WELL, WE FELT LIKE THIS WAS A GREAT WAY BECAUSE IT’S A COMMUNITY EVENT. WE HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE, A LOT OF EXCITEMENT FOR THE FOOTBALL GAME, SO WE THOUGHT IT WAS AN APPROPRIATE WAY TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNEW THAT THEY ARE LOVED AND AND HONORED BY US. AND FIREFIGHTERS TELL US IT’S JUST SIMPLY THE JOB. YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU GO TO WORK EVERY DAY, YOU DON’T EXPECT TO HAVE TO GET INTO SOMETHING THAT BIG, LIKE A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. BUT WHEN THE TONES GO OUT, THE CALLS COME OUT WE GO. WE DON’T REALLY THINK OF IT AS BEING A HERO. IT’S JUST SOMETHING WE LOVE TO DO, AND WE JUST LOVE TO JUMP INTO ACTION AND HELP PEOPLE. BUT TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED BY THEIR COMMUNITY MATTERS. IT’S NOT SOMETHING WE LOOK FOR THE THANKS AND THE RECOGNITION. SO IT’S KIND OF A BIG DEAL FOR THIS, FOR FOR US TO BE HONORED LIKE THIS. I KNOW SOMETIMES WE DON’T GET THANK YOU. SO WHEN WE DO GET A THANK YOU, IT FEELS PRETTY GOOD. AND THEN, YOU KNOW, WE GET TO WATCH FOOTBALL. SO WHO LOVES FOOTBALL. EVERYBODY. RIGHT. IN CLINTON, JAMYA JAMYA WYFF NEWS FOUR A GREENVILLE NATIVE AND AWARD WINNING SINGER WAS HONORED AT UNITY PARK YESTERDAY. OFFICIALS UNVEILED A MURAL OF PEABO BRYSON. THREE ARTISTS RAMIN STALLINGS, FAITH HUDGENS AND ORLANDO CARINO ALL WORKED ON THIS TO CREATE TO CREATE THIS MURAL ON A WALL. AT THE COMMENTS. TODAY IS A DAY OF DAYS, AND THIS MURAL WILL ALWAYS STAND AS A REFLECTION OF A LIFELONG COMMITMENT AND LOVE AFFAIR BETWEEN PEABO BRYSON AND THE CITY OF GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA. BRYSON HAS WON A GRAMMY AND AN ACADEMY AWARD AND ALSO IN GREENVILLE SAINT MARY MAGDALENE CATHOLIC CHURCH HOSTED THEIR 13TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL YESTERDAY. THE EVENT ALLOWS PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE MANY DIFFERENT CULTURES AND THERE IS LIVE MUSIC, DANCING, FOOD AND GAMES FOR THE KIDDOS. THE REALITY IS THAT WE ARE SO BLESSED TO BE WITH SO DIFFERENT PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT PLACES AROUND THE WORLD, AND THE MAIN MESSAGE THAT I SAID THIS MORNING IN OUR OPENING CEREMONY IS TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE TO THE LORD FOR ALL THOSE BLESSINGS THAT WE RECEIVE FROM THE LORD COMING TO US. AND THAT EVENT WAS FREE TO THE PUBLIC. ANOTHER EVENT YESTERDAY, TRIPLE A, PARTNERED WITH THE GREENVILLE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO HOST A FREE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ANTI-THEFT EVENT. THIS WAS HELD ON TANNER ROAD. PEOPLE BROUGHT THEIR OWN CATALYTIC CONVERTERS TO BE ETCHED WITH AN IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. THAT’S BECAUSE IT MAKES IT MAKES IT A LITTLE EASIER FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TO TRACK WHETHER OR NOT IT’S BEEN STOLEN FOR SIX MONTHS THIS YEAR, THERE WERE OVER 3800 INSURANCE CLAIMS ON STOLEN CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, WHICH AMOUNTED TO A LITTLE OVER $11 MILLION WORTH OF INSURANCE CLAIMS IN THE NATION. WHILE THIS EVENT SPREAD AWARENESS ABOUT CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFT, THOSE HOSTING IT ALSO OFFERED CAR MAINTENANCE ON SITE. LATER THIS MORNING ON. FOR THE RECORD, WE’RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT YOUNG VOTERS. WHAT’S PUSHING YOUNG PEOPLE TO THE POLLS THIS FALL AND WHAT ARE THE ISSUES THEY THINK ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THIS YEAR. ONE ISSUE DISCUSSED PAYING FOR COLLEGE. THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION HAS TRIED TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO ASSIST WITH THIS, AND THEY’VE DONE A LOT. IT HAS NOT IMPACTED AS MANY PEOPLE AS I KNOW. HE WOULD HAVE HOPED, BUT PART A LARGE PART OF THAT IS HE’S BEEN BLOCKED BY THE REPUBLICAN JUDICIAL SYSTEM. SO AS MUCH AS WE’D LIKE TO DO, IT’S IMPOSSIBLE, BUT THEY’RE STILL MAKING INROADS. I CERTAINLY DO SOMETIMES FEEL VERY STRESSED OUT ABOUT STUDENT LOANS, SINCE I HAVE THEM MYSELF. BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, I DO BELIEVE THAT IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY THEM BACK, AND I THINK WE SHOULD ACTUALLY LOOK AT THE ROOT CAUSE OF WHY THEY’RE EVEN NECESSARY TO BEGIN WITH. I MEAN, FOR ONE THING, COLLEGE HAS GOTTEN ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS, AND THE JOIN US THIS MORNING AT 1130 FOR THE FULL CONVERSATION W
