The 16th Annual Dempsey Challenge was a huge success!
On Saturday, The 16th Annual Dempsey Challenge was held in Lewiston. People from all over the world came together to participate in this event to make life better for people who are living with cancer.
This in-person event features a 5K/10K run, walk, and ride events.
In 1997, Patrick Dempsey’s mother, Amanda, was diagnosed with cancer, and when she passed in 2014, he helped start the Patrick Dempsey Center at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Since 2009, when Dempsey introduced the first Dempsey Challenge, it has raised millions of dollars over the years.
Dempsey was born in Lewiston and grew up in the nearby towns of Turner and Buckfield. He, of course, is best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy, and has been in quite a few hit movies over the years, including “Thanksgiving”, “Scream 3”, “Sweet Home Alabama”, and my personal favorite, “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
Maine’s singing sensation, Julia Gagnon added another cool accomplishment to an ever growing list in 2024, when she sang the national anthem to kick off the day.
She then lived out another dream, when she met “McDreamy” himself
Julia Gagnon will bring her “Here In Maine” homecoming tour to the Cross Insurance Center, in Bangor, on Saturday, October 12th. Best of all, some very special guests are coming with her.
