Ana de Armas is back in action, this time as a fierce ballerina-turned-assassin in ‘Ballerina‘, a spinoff from the successful ‘John Wick‘ universe.
The first trailer for the film dropped online and fans have got a tease of all the action set to unfold as Armas takes on the role of Eve Macarro, a young woman recruited to train at an elite assassin academy.
‘Ballerina’ unfolds between the events of ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’ and ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’.The film takes viewers deeper into the shadowy world of the Ruska Roma, a secret society of assassins.Keanu Reeves who introduced fans to the world of John Wick back in 2014, makes a brief appearance in the film. In addition to de Armas and Reeves, the film boasts a formidable cast including Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus.
Originally scheduled for release on June 7, 2024, ‘Ballerina’ has been postponed to June 6, 2025. Directed by Len Wiseman, the film is based on a script by Shay Hatten, drawing on characters created by Derek Kolstad. Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the original ‘John Wick’ films, collaborated with Wiseman to enhance the film’s action sequences.
‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ which was released this year, grossed an impressive $440 million.
