The NFL season always brings exciting moments that nobody ever saw coming, which is the nature of sports in general. We see all kinds of upsets throughout the season, leaving fans waiting for more action.
But heading into Week 4, which teams could be on upset alert?
Newsweek Sports has you covered and has listed the top five teams on upset alert entering the weekend.
5. Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
The Vikings have looked like the best team in football this season behind resurgent quarterback Sam Darnold. Entering this pivotal early divisional matchup with Green Bay, the Vikings could be in some trouble. Green Bay starting quarterback Jordan Love may return for this contest but even if he can’t go, Malik Willis has been good in his absence. This game could be huge for playoff seeding and maybe even the NFC North division.
4. Miami Dolphins vs Tennesee Titans
Neither of these two teams can be considered very good but for different reasons. The Titans are just a bad football team right now while the Dolphins are dealing with injuries, especially at the quarterback position. Without starter Tua Tagovailoa, Miami’s offense looked stale last week. They may end up playing former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley in this game, potentially giving them some life. However, the Titans could still pull the technical upset if they win this game.
3. Cincinnati Bengals @ Carolina Panthers
It’s a little tough to put the Bengals on upset alert considering that they are 0-3 to start the season but many will be expecting them to win this matchup. They will be facing a Carolina team that seemed to find its footing last week against the Las Vegas Raiders with Andy Dalton behind center. The former Bengals signal-caller will be looking to make it two straight wins for the Panthers and taking down Cincinnati would be the icing on the cake. If Cincinnati isn’t careful, a 0-4 start to the year could be in the cards.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers @ Indianapolis Colts
Pittsburgh has started the year 3-0 behind strong defensive play. But going up against the Colts, the Steelers could be on upset alert. While the Colts’ defense is still a work in progress, the offense looked a little more organized last week against the Chicago Bears. The Steelers are riding the high of being undefeated and could overlook Indianapolis before a massive Sunday Night Football matchup with the Dallas Cowboys the following week.
1. New York Jets vs Denver Broncos
Aaron Rodgers finally showed out for the Jets against the New England Patriots last week, giving New York fans hope for the rest of the season. Now entering a trap game against the Broncos at home, New York finds itself on upset alert. The Denver defense has been playing well, while rookie quarterback Bo Nix looked much more comfortable in the offense last week. The Jets can’t overlook the Broncos this week, otherwise, they will fall to 2-2 on the season.
