Arsenal are the new favourites to land the 2024-25 Premier League title after Manchester City dropped points at Newcastle United, according to Betfair.
Pep Guardiola’s side, who have narrowly beaten the Gunners to the last two top-flight trophies, were unable to defeat Newcastle on Saturday as they drew 1-1.
Later in the day, Arsenal recorded a 3-2 victory over Leicester City at the Emirates, and the two sets of results mean the Gunners are the new English title favourites.
That’s according to UK bookmakers Betfair, who are now offering 11/8 odds for Arsenal to clinch the Premier League trophy for the first time in 21 years.
‘Arsenal are the new, and clear, favourites to win the Premier League title after a dramatic victory at home to Leicester, just hours after Manchester City dropped points at Newcastle,’ Betfair posted on their website.
‘[Man City’s] game was played 24 hours after Pep Guardiola had confirmed that star midfielder Rodri would be sidelined for the rest of the season after he had undergone surgery in Spain to fix an ACL injury.
‘Today’s results mean that both Arsenal and Manchester City are locked together at the top of the table (before Liverpool and Aston Villa’s games) on 14 points, so the fact that the Gunners are now clear favourites to win the title means that Betfair punters clearly believe that Rodri’s long-term absence will hinder the defending champions.’
Betfair added that ‘prices quoted in copy are correct at time of publication but liable to change’.
Betfair’s article was posted before Liverpool recorded a 2-1 victory at Wolves to move to the top of the Premier League table on 15 points.
City and Arsenal sit second and third respectively on 14 points, with Pep Guardiola’s side ahead due to their superior goal difference.
Chelsea are currently fourth on 13 points while Aston Villa, who have a game in hand, are fifth on 12 points.
City have dominated the top-flight in recent seasons, winning six of the last seven Premier League titles.
Liverpool are the only side to have stopped them, clinching the 2019-20 trophy under former boss Jurgen Klopp.
