Erin Foster and Simon Tikhman’s love story inspired a TV show.
Erin, who is the daughter of music legend David Foster, first met Simon at a Los Angeles gym in 2018. The couple dated for a year before getting married on New Year’s Eve in 2019. Prior to their wedding, Erin converted to Judaism for Simon, who is Jewish.
“For someone to do that for you … [it] is the biggest thing you could ever do. I’ll always be grateful for Erin,” Simon said during an appearance on Erin and sister Sara Foster‘s podcast, The World’s First Podcast, in 2021.
“Simon and Judaism, they both represented family to me,” Erin added. “It wasn’t something I did because Simon [wanted] me to do it, it’s something I did because it really felt like the right way to start a life together.”
Over four years after tying the knot, the couple expanded their family with the birth of their daughter, Noa Mimi Tikhman, in May 2024.
A few short months later, Nobody Wants This — created by Erin — premiered on Netflix. The series is loosely based on the Favorite Daughter co-founder and Simon’s relationship as it follows agnostic sex podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and newly single Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) who fall in love despite naysayers.
So, who is Erin Foster’s husband? Here’s everything to know about Simon Tikhman.
He’s from San Francisco
Simon and his brother, Alex, were raised by their Russian-Jewish parents Anatoly and Marina Tikhman in San Francisco.
Anatoly and Marina immigrated to the United States from the Soviet Union in 1980 due to extreme antisemitism. They settled in California where Simon’s mother worked as a dentist and his father became a tech executive.
He’s a music executive
In 2019, Simon, who attended the University of Southern California, and his business partner Kevin “Chief” Zaruk launched The Core Entertainment, an artist management company in partnership with Live Nation. They have since expanded — creating The Core Producer Management division and The Core Records, a partnership with Universal Music Group.
He and Erin met at the gym
Erin and Simon first met at Studeo, a small gym in Beverly Hills, in 2018.
“We would see each other every other day at 9 a.m. I just started to notice him and being like, ‘Who is that cute guy doing pullups and smiling at me?’ ” the Favorite Daughter co-founder told listeners on her podcast.
Eventually, she found Simon on Instagram and requested to follow his private account. They started messaging each other and after a casual hangout at Beverly Hills Juice, Simon and Erin began dating.
“I was scared because I had a really good time slot at the gym. We had to end this thing in marriage,” the music exec joked.
He proposed to Erin by planning a fake wedding
In August 2019, Simon proposed to Erin at what she thought was a friend’s vow renewal in Napa Valley.
“A month or so ago, Simon told me his friend @chiefkz was doing a wedding renewal in Napa and asked if I would go with him for one night. Obviously, I believed it was real,” she shared on Instagram.
Simon went as far as to buy “balloons and signs for this fake ass wedding” and when Erin asked where all the guests were, he claimed that they had gone on a wine tour. While enjoying a glass of wine at The Napa Valley Reserve, Simon got down on one knee.
The moment was documented by a photographer as well as Erin’s family, who were waiting to surprise her after the big moment.
“That was the best day of my life. I love Simon and I can’t believe he loves me back,” she added.
He and Erin got married on New Year’s Eve in 2019
Simon and Erin didn’t wait long to tie the knot. On New Year’s Eve in 2019, they wed in Nashville, Tenn., surrounded by family and friends. The TV writer, who wore a stunning silk Danielle Frankel gown, walked down the aisle with her dad and the couple were married by their rabbi, Beau Shapiro.
“I genuinely love being married. It is different. There is a closeness that can go even deeper when you’re married,” Simon shared on The World’s First Podcast.
Erin converted to Judaism
Simon was “very honest” with Erin about wanting to marry someone Jewish. So, she decided to attend conversion classes with Rabbi Shapiro prior to getting engaged.
“Part of the conversion process was I would have to go with her every Tuesday night for four hours,” Simon shared on Erin’s podcast. “It was probably the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done as a Jew. It was a real prideful moment for me.”
Erin added, “They say being a Jewish couple is not about what you learn in class, it’s about the drive home together and what you talk about. Being a Jewish couple is about how you implement it into your lives.”
He and Erin share one child
After “over 20 failed rounds of IVF,” Erin gave birth to her and Simon’s first child on May 17, 2024. Their daughter, Noa Mimi Tikhman, was born at home and Erin called it “truly the most insane experience of my life, with the best ending.”
Simon echoed those sentiments on The World’s First Podcast in June 2024.
“It was insane,” he said. “I got 40,000 steps in just from pacing. You’re nervous about your wife, you’re nervous about your daughter. She had a few exorcism-type moments I had to walk away from. But I’m in awe of what she did.”
He is very close with Erin’s older sister Sara Foster
Since meeting his now-wife, Simon has formed a close bond with Erin’s older sister, Sara. The sisters often joke that the entrepreneur likes Sara more than Erin.
“I’m definitely more your best friend than Erin is,” he said to Sara on The World’s First Podcast. “I don’t look at Sara as my sister-in-law. Sara is now my sister. That’s how [the Jewish] culture is.”
Simon and Erin’s romance inspired Netflix’s Nobody Wants This
Erin is the creator behind Netflix’s series Nobody Wants This about Joanne, a sex podcaster, and Rabbi Noah Roklov who fall in love and must grapple with their different cultural backgrounds.
When Erin originally sold the script, Simon was unaware of the project and later expressed his concerns about showcasing their relationship and the Jewish culture on the small screen.
“I’m from a very private family,” The Core Entertainment founder told the Los Angeles Times. “My mom would always tell us stories about how if you said the wrong thing in the Soviet Union as a Jew, you could be taken to jail. I really respect my parents and know the adversity they went through because they were Jewish. I wouldn’t want to disappoint them.”
Simon’s fears were eased after his parents gave Erin their blessing. While filming, Marina even made an appearance in the pilot episode.
