- A variety of mobile games are contributing towards One Special Day
- The project by charity Special Effect helps physically disabled gamers to play
- Purchases made in these games go toward helping those in need
It’s a Friday, and for many of us, that means that it’s the end of a week and a time to party! But, for the folks at UK-based charity Special Effects, today is One Special Day, quite literally. And that’s because many participating games are pitching in to help disabled gamers.
Today is dedicated to mobile! And players who make purchases in a variety of games, including Angry Birds 2, Boom Beach, Score Hero, Merge Mansion and more will have their money contribute towards raising funds for Special Effects and their work in helping players.
Special Effects, if you were unaware, are primarily known for helping create peripherals and other accessibility technology that aids disabled gamers in being able to play their favourite games. So if you’re playing any of those games today, you can rest assured that any money you spend is going to a worthwhile cause!
One good turn
I think the usual, rather toxic, conversation around accessibility overshadows the fact that for a lot of people, it’s not merely a case of needing an “easy mode”. Plenty of gamers need special physical accommodations to enjoy the kind of entertainment we take for granted. So it’s always heartening to see that charities like Special Effect are contributing towards helping people play!
And while one day may not seem like much, given how much money a lot of the mobile games that are participating make even in that brief period of time, I’d say it’s not an insubstantial contribution.
