The latest edition of Five Things is not a laughing matter.
Or is it?
A perfect storm of standup comedy is converging upon the Queen City this weekend as we gear up for a busy time on the local entertainment scene.
1. Comedy Here, There & Everywhere Tour
Two award-winning veterans of stage and screen — Jon Dore and Dave Merheje — are bringing their national comedy tour to the Casino Regina Show Lounge on Saturday night, joined by special guests Andy Noble and Faris Hytiaa.

Dore, whose offbeat humour earned him a Juno in 2023 for best comedy album, is known for a bait-and-switch style that has entertained audiences on CBC’s Humour Resources, the Comedy Network’s Jon Dore Television Show, Conan O’Brien, and others.
Merheje, who won the same Juno award in 2019, recently starred in the indie film “Sometimes I Think About Dying” in addition to Hulu’s “Ramy” and a one-hour comedy special on Crave, “I Love You Habibi.”

2. Kevin McDonald: Superstar
The co-founder of legendary Canadian sketch comedy troupe Kids in the Hall is performing Saturday night at the Artesian in a show described as a “rock opera by Kevin McDonald, about Kevin McDonald, for Kevin McDonald.”
Based on true events, it’s a comedic “collision of love, betrayal, and fame,” says a preview on the venue’s website.
McDonald’s movie credits include Sky High, Galaxy Quest, Boy Meets Girl, Lilo & Stitch, and Epic Movie, along with TV appearances on That ’70s Show, Seinfeld, Friends, NewsRadio, MADtv, Arrested Development, and Corner Gas. In 2022, he reunited with the gang from Kids in the Hall for a new season on Amazon Prime.

3. The Acoustic Sessions
Four prominent Saskatchewan musicians — Jay Semko, Heidi Munro, Scott Patrick, and Chris Henderson — are joining forces for a special acoustic performance on Saturday night at Darke Hall.
Semko, who’s originally from Saskatoon, is a singer/songwriter/bassist and founding member of Canadian pop-rock group the Northern Pikes. He’s also the newest contributor to the Acoustic Sessions, which previously included local blues legend Jack Semple.
Semko will be performing alongside three of Saskatchewan’s best-known country artists — Henderson and the duo of Munro & Patrick — for “a night of songs, stories, and a few laughs.”
The show is part of the Regina Folk Festival’s concert series, which also includes Friday’s sold-out performance by Joel Plaskett at the Artesian.
