DIY SOS host Nick Knowles was visibly disappointed as he shared how “gutted” he felt to be bowing out of Strictly Come Dancing following a brutal second injury in a matter of days – but then he issued a war cry, vowing: “We’re not calling time on it yet!”
No sooner had the presenter been given the all-clear following an arm injury incurred while changing a tyre at top speed on the motorway than he suffered another injury to his knee. This time, his Strictly dreams for Movie Week are over.
Talking in a new statement on Instagram, the 62-year-old sadly revealed that medics are so concerned about him that they’ve urged him to go straight to central London to get a diagnostic scan. In a video filmed from the motorway, he groaned: “Bad news again for me, I’m afraid.
“After the tough week I had last week, everything was going really, really well this week,” Nick despaired. He added that, according to pro partner Luba Mushtuk, his dancing had begun to progress enormously.
However, while rehearsing their Charleston dance to the soundtrack of the Paddington Bear film, disaster struck. “I managed to sort of fall and hurt my knee – and the medics were great, the physios were great, [they put] lots of ice on it [and were] looking after me.”
He continued: “After having a look at it, they’ve decided that I need an MRI scan. I’m on my way to London to get one now.”
Jokily referencing the hospital, he quipped: “I’ll be starting to get frequent flyer points at this place if I’m not careful!”
However, he revealed that he was working on it with a combination of rest and “strengthening exercises” and urged followers to “stick with him” as he hopes to be able to dance again next week.
“We’re not calling time on it yet!!” he vowed.
In his Instagram caption, he reiterated: “I’m gutted not to be dancing for you this weekend (I thought I’d actually nailed it and was getting slightly lighter footed – instead I’ll be resting. Thank you to all at the BBC for your care and support.”
He was inundated with support from some of his 311,000 followers, with one reassuring: “Not every Strictly journey goes smoothly. Rest up Nick and hope to see you back next week!”
“So sorry for your injury Nick. Knees are fragile so look after yours and let it heal thoroughly before resuming any training!” wrote another.
“Did you slip on a marmalade sandwich by chance?” a third joked in reference to the Paddington Bear movie theme tune he would have danced to this week.
“I wish Instagram had a sad button. Fingers and toes crossed for you that you can dance again next week!” shared another fan.
