The Saskatchewan Party’s Scott Moe and Saskatchewan NDP’s Carla Beck will take part in the leaders debate on Oct. 16, the media partnership behind the event announced on Monday.
The debate, which will run from 6:05 p.m. to 7 p.m., will be aired on CBC TV and radio, CTV and Global TV, as well as their websites. The location for the debate was not immediately announced.
Merelda Fiddler, an assistant professor of Indigenous communication at First Nations University of Canada, is scheduled to moderate the debate.
Regina Leader-Post and Saskatoon StarPhoenix political columnist Murray Mandryk, as well as CBC’s Adam Hunter, CTV’s Allison Bamford and Global’s Brenden Purdy, will be involved in asking questions of Moe and Beck.
The second week of campaigning started on Monday with appearances by Moe and Beck in Regina.
Through the first week, Beck and the NDP unveiled a costed fiscal plan they say would see some cuts, no tax hikes and a path to balance within four years. Beck has also promised to spend an extra $1.1 billion on health care over four years, as well as pause the gas tax for six months and scrap the provincial sales tax from children’s clothes and some grocery items.
Moe has promised widespread tax relief for families, an increase in benefits for families looking to put their kids in sports and arts, and a pair of tax credits to help current and prospective homeowners. Moe has also said the Saskatchewan Party would increase the amount of tuition money rebated to students under its Graduate Retention Program, and promised broad-based tax relief to reduce personal income taxes.
