HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — A lawsuit has been filed against a Harrisburg chiropractor after he allegedly mislead his patients into believing his care would be covered by their insurance, but according to the PA Attorney General, that was not the truth.
“This chiropractor did a disservice to patients seeking care by either intentionally misleading them about insurance coverage or neglecting to send their claims to their insurance providers,” Attorney General Henry said.
The AG states that Jason Fullmer of Central PA Spinal Health Chiropractic, LLC, is allegedly in violation of the PA Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law, as well as the PA Fair Credit Extension Uniformity Act following a lawsuit filed by patients claiming they were mislead about their insurance.
The lawsuit comes after patients were allegedly told that Fullmer’s chiropractic services would be covered by the patient’s insurance. Instead, those patients claim to have received calls and invoices from agencies “threatening” debt collection if they did not pay.
The lawsuit continues, detailing that after Fullmer told patients that their care would be covered, Fullmer then “neglected” to file the insurance claims or “refused” to submit necessary documentation to the insurer while continuing to collect payments from his patients, the AG states.
Patients were left with substantial invoices and threatened with collection actions if they did not pay up.
The release from the AG also says that Fullmer even advised his patients to file complaints against their insurances companies, further misleading his patients about the care they received and what their insurance providers could provide.
The Attorney General encourages anyone who believes they were a victim of these practices should file a complaint with the Healthcare Section at www.attorneygeneral.gov.
