Ethel Cain will release new project ‘Perverts’ on January 8th.
The American artist released her wonderful debut album ‘Preacher’s Daughter’ in 2022, and won across the board acclaim with her stunning, emotive songwriting.
In our 9/10 review CLASH wrote:
In this exploration of Ethel Cain’s world, pieces of that world are transformed as she diverts for better or worse from norms of faith, gender and relationships and in turn creates new pathways. A heart-wrenching collection of songs that urges the listener to give themselves over to this album as much as Ethel Cain gives herself over to you.
Since then, she’s toured widely, including a stop at London’s All Points East festival over summer. Work on a new studio album has continued, with the results set to land shortly.
New project ‘Perverts’ will be released on January 8th, with lead single ‘Punish’ landing on November 1st.

Ethel Cain wrote a beautiful essay for our print edition in 2022, titled ‘Moving beyond hard times…’
An extract reads:
Currently, I wake up each morning in my South Alabama museum of oddities, drink my long swig of cold water straight from the jug, and flit about in my dusty, wood-panelled palace. I am content to blend the sweetest nostalgic magic of my childhood with all the glory my 20s have to offer. I’ve rediscovered my vein, and I keep my finger on its pulse at all times. I’ve found the little things in life that make me happy, and luckily for me they are things that can never be kept from me behind walls built by someone else.
