Despite falling short in the post-season, the Philadelphia Phillies believe in the man running their dugout.
Philadelphia has signed manager Rob Thomson to a one-year extension, keeping him in the City of Brotherly Love through the 2026 season, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski announced Tuesday.
Dombrowski also announced that the entirety of his coaching staff will also be returning next season.
“I think we have a good coaching staff. They do a very efficient job,” Dombrowski said. “They did lead us to 95 wins and they’ve been with us for a couple years. … They’re very efficient, they do their job well. … To me, it was pretty simple in that regard.”
Despite finishing with the second-best record in the majors at 95-67 this season, the Phillies petered out in the NLDS, losing 3-1 to division-rival New York Mets.
Thomson’s contract was set to expire after the 2025 campaign. The Sarnia, Ont., native has managed the team since 2022 after being initially hired as a bench coach under former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler in 2018.
He’s the first manager in Phillies history to reach the post-season in each of his first three years as a manager in MLB and has led the team to a 250-185 record in that span. His .575 winning percentage is the best in Phillies history.
