The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are getting one of the CFL’s most exciting young playmakers back in the rotation this week.
Rookie running back Greg Bell is slated to return to the lineup after missing the last game with a rib injury. In six appearances, the 26-year-old has carried 68 times for 399 yards and five touchdowns. He has also caught 25 passes for 208 yards through the air and another score.
As a result, veteran James Butler will go back to being a healthy scratch. In 11 games this season, the two-time thousand-yard rusher has notched 110 carries for 522 yards and two touchdowns, while also catching 45 passes for 372 yards and another score.
Defensively, the Ticats will be without one of the game’s best cornerbacks, Jamal Peters (neck). In 14 games this year, the lockdown man has collected 38 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, and four interceptions. Jonathan Moxey will take over at boundary corner, while Carthell Flowers-Lloyd gets the nod at strong-side linebacker.
Returning to the lineup will be defensive end Nick Usher, who has notched 30 defensive tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble in 15 games. Linebacker D.Q. Thomas will also step in with Kyle Wilson active but nursing an Achilles injury.
Defensive linemen Tim Ward and Deionte Knight have been returned to the practice roster, while Canadian Evan Johnson will dress as a seventh offensive lineman.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-10) will host the Calgary Stampeders (4-11-1) on Friday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
