- Asus is set to debut its newest gaming phone with the ROG 9 series
- It boasts higher-end hardware capabilities and more
- The handset is set to go on sale in November this year
Powerful gaming handset fans can rejoice, as Asus has just announced their latest entry into the burgeoning world of phones for the hardcore gamer. The ROG 9 series is set to continue the PC manufacturer’s successful line of handsets and boasts a commensurate level of hardware power to justify the price tag.
For one, the new ROG 9 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, which features the second-generation Oryon CPU and enhanced Adreno GPU. Both of these are obviously pretty beefy additions to the already high specs of these phones. So if you’re a frequent player of higher-spec games like Warzone you’ll certainly find this a welcome upgrade.
A brief look at the handset in the promotional images certainly suggests there’s nothing aesthetics-wise that’s pushing the boat out, what with the familiar burnished black metal design. The ROG 9 will also get a showcase at the upcoming Snapdragon Summit 2024, where media and fans will get a closer look at the handset.
Rise up, gamersI’m a bit iffy on the concept of a gaming handset, if only because to me it kind of downplays the core appeal of having your smartphone do everything. Still, unlike a gaming PC, it doesn’t mean you’re stuck managing your RGB gubbins or other stuff, but it does mean you’ll probably have to be the kind of person who plays high-fidelity cross-platform games to get the most out of this hardware.
