- NCSoft’s multiplayer MOBA Battle Crush is set to be shuttered this November
- The move seems to be part of a wider corporate restructure at NCSoft
- Other games like Doguri Adventure and Miniverse have been affected
In a surprising move, NCSoft has opted to shut down their MOBA battle royale Battle Crush. The servers for Battle Crush will close on November 29th, with in-game purchases set to halt later today, and a potential refund plan going live on the same day as the closure. So for Battle Crush fans, it seems the end is nigh.
The move to shutter Battle Crush is a pretty surprising turnaround considering the mythology-inspired multiplayer game only recently received a major revamp and new content drop with season 1.5. However, it’s not altogether unexpected given how many games we’ve seen close abruptly over the past couple of years on mobile.
As reported via the folks at Gematsu, it seems this decision was partially influenced by a corporate decision to form four new subsidiaries by splitting off some of their businesses. It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if this move comes as part of a wider company shakeup that negatively affected both Battle Crush and NCSoft’s other games, Doguri Adventure and Miniverse.
Crushing defeat
I have a soft spot for Battle Crush, given it’s one of the earliest games I covered starting out on the consumer side of PocketGamer. And while it was never really a lifetime favourite, I thought it was perfectly agreeable both in terms of graphics and gameplay, and other people on the site agreed it had potential. If the corporate restructuring is part of the reason for this, I do find it a bit frustrating that we have to keep seeing games shut down or otherwise kneecapped by unrelated business decisions.
